Sweden-based Scorchers attacker Faith Chimzimu says they are looking beyond this evening’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) quarter-final against Algeria as their mission is to win the title.
In an interview with the media on Sunday after the Malawi National Women’s Football Team beat Ghana 2-1 to qualify for the semi-finals, which earned them a slot at next year’s Women’s World Cup, the 19-year-old said: “I feel that we have a good chance of winning the match.

“We will work extra hard to win against Algeria in the semi-final on Wednesday [today] because we are here on a mission to win the cup and take it home to Malawi.”
The 2025/26 Uefa Women’s Europa Cup winner also appealed for support from Malawians.
“We need your support to motivate us to achieve our ultimate goal. With your support, we will do the job,” she said.
On qualifying for the World Cup for the first time, the BK Hacken midfielder, who provided the assist for the winning goal against Ghana scored by France-based Rose Kabzere, said: “It was an amazing feeling because many did not give us a chance to reach that level.
“It was our mission to qualify for the World Cup, which is every player’s wish, so we were very excited.”
Meanwhile, Chimzimu, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Angola in November last year to seal the Scorchers’ maiden Wafcon qualification, played the quarter-final against Ghana with a printed prayer tucked inside her jersey, an act that has drawn praise and admiration from some quarters on social media platforms.
